  • What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system consists of an extensive network of lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and organs. The lymphatic system helps us maintain fluid balance, remove waste from our bodies, defend the body from infections, and facilitate the absorption of dietary fats from the digestive tract.

  • How is the Lymphatic System Post-Surgery?

After any surgery, we may experience increased bruising, swelling, and pain. Although these are normal healing stages, the lymphatic system becomes compromised. This can lead to secondary complications such as an excessive build-up of fluid, puffiness, more pain, reduced function, delayed healing, and thickened as well as uneven skin known as fibrosis.

With cosmetic procedures like liposuction, the lymphatic system is even more compromised since the lymphatic pathways are removed. The post-op swelling can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to decrease if proper post-op care is not utilized. A Brazilian post-op lymphatic massage helps accelerate the recovery and achieve your goals.

  • When Should I Get My First Post-op Brazilian Drainage Massage?

Since a lymphatic drainage massage is a very gentle technique, post-op lymphatic drainage is recommended by plastic surgeons within 3 to 5 days of your surgical procedure. This helps speed up your healing, while preventing fibrosis, scarring, and maximizing your results.

A minimum of 10 lymphatic massages are recommended. For the first 2 weeks, we recommend daily sessions or every other day to reduce inflammation, eliminate fluids, and decrease bruising. After this, they can be spaced out to 3 sessions a week, followed by maintenance once a month for the next 5 to 6 months for optimal results.
